baked french toast with ham and cheese

·         12 slices of bread (TX toast works great but not critical)
Assemble sandwiches from the bread using the ingredients noted below:
o Smoked ham deli slice
o Provolone sliced cheese or your favorite, Swiss or pepper jack, cheddar would also work well.
o Dijon mustard

Prepare custard:
o 6 large eggs
o   ½ tsp salt
o   ½ cup whole milk
o   ½ cup half-half  (can omit and just more milk if needed)
o   1½ vanilla
o   4 tbs maple syrup
Mix ingredients above well.

Place sandwiches in a well-greased baking dish and pour custard mix over the sandwiches, let set about 3 min then turn over to ensure bread is well covered with the mixture.  Let the custard/sandwich mixture set about 5 min then place another well-greased baking dish on top to hold the sandwiches in place.  (Note: this is a must or you will have a big mess and if you don’t grease it will stick)

Bake in a 425 degree oven for about 20-30 min. until golden brown.
Remove top pan and serve.
